Sex toys, toy guns among goods destroyed by KRA in Eldoret

By MARGARET NJUGUNAH, NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 15 –

Sex toys, toy guns, tobacco and various pharmaceutical products are among prohibited and substandard goods that have been seized and destroyed by the Kenya Revenue Authority.

Valued at Sh1 million, KRA and the Kenya Poisons and Pharmacy Board confiscated the products at a customs warehouse in Eldoret last year.

The goods were condemned for being noncompliant of various guiding laws, according to KRA Deputy Commissioner and the North Rift Regional Coordinator Florence Otori who presided over the destruction of the goods.

The goods were burnt at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital incinerator in Eldoret Town.

“The goods being destroyed include tobacco and other pharmaceutical products which do not meet the public health standards, plants and seeds which are a threat to our fauna and flora, toy guns which are prohibited under security laws as well as pornographic materials such as artificial male and female organs which are a threat to moral standards.”

Otori said that KRA has installed a scanner at the Moi International Airport to enhance verification and detection of uncustomed goods thereby improving efficiency and performance.
