Bird strike on Kenya Airways forces flight to return to Lusaka

August 21 2018
A KENYA Airways flight was forced to return to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka, last evening after it struck a bird on departure.

The Embraer ERJ-190, departed shortly after 6pm and returned safely about 30 minutes later for equipment check.

And Zambia Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Corporate Affairs Manager Gabriel Lesa confirmed the incident and said the impact of bird strike was not serious.

“They just had a technical faulty which they actually reported and came back. They actually hit into a bird, it was a bird strike and they just came back to assess whether it was serious. The engineers looked to access whether there was enough damage but then they discovered it was okay and that took almost 2 hours and then they even flew back. It wasn't a stray dog, it was a bird actually,” Lesa said.
